Kamala Harris really held a press conference just to call Donald Trump 'Hitler'. How low can you go?
Kamala Harris had planned to dedicate the entirety of Wednesday to preparations for a CNN Town Hall, a process that raises questions about its necessity, but she paused her schedule to make brief comments at a sudden 1 PM press conference. The urgency of this event stemmed from her dissatisfaction with the widespread coverage by major media outlets, including CNN and MSNBC, of a discredited article by Jeffrey Goldberg in The Atlantic, which claimed that Donald Trump had made inappropriate remarks regarding generals. With just 13 days remaining before the election, Harris found herself at home, convening a press conference to disparage her opponent rather than articulating her own vision for the nation.
"Yesterday we learned that Donald Trump's former chief of staff, John Kelly, a retired four-star general, confirmed that while Donald Trump was president he said he wanted generals like Adolf Hitler had. Donald Trump said that because he does not want a military that is loyal to the U.S. Constitution; he wants a military that is loyal to him. He wants a military who will be loyal to him personally, one that will obey his orders even when he tells them to break the law or abandon their oath to the Constitution of the United States."
The status of an individual as a retired four-star general does not automatically confer credibility, Madame Vice President. Goldberg asserted that two unnamed individuals provided information regarding that conversation, purportedly alongside Kelly, despite many former White House staff members publicly disputing this account. The reluctance to disclose Goldberg's sources raises questions, especially considering the lack of apparent risk in opposing Donald Trump. Furthermore, Harris appears to have fabricated details.
In just the past week Donald Trump has repeatedly called his fellow Americans the enemy from within and even said that he would use the United States military to go after American citizens. And let's be clear about who he considers to be the enemy from within: anyone who refuses to bend a knee or dares to criticize him would qualify, in his mind, as the enemy within. Like judges, like journalists, like non-partisan election officials.
It is evident that the "enemy within" mentioned by Trump includes individuals such as Mahar Bitar, Rob Malley, Ariane Tabatabai, and others, who appear to prioritize their allegiance to Islamic extremists over their commitment to the United States.
Harris continued:
It is deeply troubling and incredibly dangerous that Donald Trump would invoke Adolf Hitler, the man who was responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews and hundreds of thousands of Americans.
Harris' supporters appear indifferent to the deaths of six million Jews or even the Americans who perished in Israel on October 7 and subsequently, with some still being held hostage. Despite this, Harris and her supporters seem to actively undermine Israel's attempts to achieve justice and rescue these hostages.
Furthermore, Harris seems to believe that the American public, having endured four years under Donald Trump's presidency, requires her guidance in understanding his character.
All of this is further evidence for the American people of who Donald Trump really is. This is a window into who Donald Trump really is, from the people who know him best, from the people who worked with him side by side in the Oval Office and in the Situation room.
From those who are most familiar with him? John Kelly? Certainly not.
And it is clear from John Kelly's words that Donald Trump is someone who I, quote, certainly falls into the general definition of fascist, who in fact vowed to be a dictator on day one, and vowed to use the military as his personal militia, to carry out his personal and political vendettas.
Donald Trump is increasingly unhinged and unstable, and in a second term people like John Kelly would not be there to be the guard rails against his propensities and his actions. Those who once tried to stop him from pursuing his worst impulses would no longer be there, and no longer be there to rein him in.
The underlying message she aims to convey to American voters is becoming clear. She suggests that the initial presidency of Donald Trump did not truly reflect his character, attributing his restraint to figures such as John Kelly, Cassidy Hutchinson, and Alyssa Farah Griffin. Consequently, she argues that the real concern should be a potential second term for Trump.
I remain skeptical about the effectiveness of this argument.
Harris concluded with:
So the bottom line is this: We know what Donald Trump wants. He wants unchecked power. The question, in 13 days, will be, what do the American people want?
Will Harris actually listen to what the American people want, or will he continue to ignore their voices?
