The apprehension of a suspect involved in an attempted assassination of former President Trump in Florida was documented through bodycam footage worn by law enforcement officers, which was made public on Monday afternoon. The individual, identified as Ryan Routh, aged 58, was taken into custody on Sunday while traveling northbound on Interstate 95. Martin County Sheriff Will Snyder provided details during a press briefing, indicating that deputies successfully surrounded Routh's vehicle before making the arrest.
The released video footage reveals a tense moment as deputies instructed Routh to exit his vehicle, walk backwards, and keep his hands raised above his head as he complied with their orders. Routh is alleged to have been lying in wait for Trump at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, armed with an SKS-style rifle. Reports indicate that he fled the scene after Secret Service agents noticed the rifle's muzzle through a chain-link fence, approximately 300 yards from where Trump was playing golf.
Following the incident, Routh was apprehended shortly thereafter, thanks to a witness who provided authorities with a photograph of his vehicle. Sheriff Snyder informed the media that Routh was captured near the Palm City exit 714 on I-95, noting that it took law enforcement nearly two miles to coordinate their resources effectively to surround and halt the suspect's vehicle. The sheriff remarked on Routh's apparent strategy, stating, "He was smart, he was just driving with the flow of traffic," suggesting that Routh may have believed he had successfully evaded capture.
