In contrast, Kamala Harris remains somewhat enigmatic, with her tenure as a prosecutor raising concerns about her effectiveness in holding violent offenders accountable, as well as her performance as the border czar. Furthermore, her demeanor during her vice presidency, characterized by a seemingly carefree attitude, raises questions about her respect for those who work diligently to support her ambitions, thereby prompting serious reflection on her suitability for the presidency.

 

Data from Open the Books, a government oversight organization, reveals that more than 90% of Kamala Harris's staff have departed since she assumed the role of Vice President under Joe Biden approximately three and a half years ago. While some degree of staff turnover is commonplace in the political arena, such a significant exodus raises serious concerns about the internal dynamics of her office. This situation not only prompts a critical self-assessment but also casts doubt on the perceived cohesion within the Biden-Harris administration, suggesting that underlying issues may be affecting their collaborative efforts.

The challenges within Kamala Harris's workplace environment have been widely acknowledged, with reports surfacing just months into her vice presidency. A notable article from Politico highlighted the dysfunction present among her team, indicating that it poses a risk to the White House's carefully curated image of a unified and professional staff dedicated to advancing the president's agenda. The level of discontent has become so apparent that it has drawn the attention of members within President Biden's own team, who have expressed concern regarding the treatment of Harris's staffers, further complicating the administration's narrative of solidarity.

The difficulties faced by Harris are underscored by her low polling numbers during her 2020 presidential campaign, which ultimately led to her withdrawal from the race. Despite presenting a façade of camaraderie and enthusiasm, her political history reveals a more cutthroat approach to power dynamics, even in her interactions with Joe Biden. Harris's reputation for being a demanding supervisor was well-established prior to her elevation to the vice presidency. In 2019, Terry McAteer penned an opinion piece for The Union, detailing the experiences of his son Gregory, who interned for Harris during her tenure as a senator. McAteer recounted that Harris frequently employed harsh language and profanity in her interactions with staff, creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. He further noted that as Attorney General, Harris mandated her staff to stand and greet her each morning with a formal acknowledgment, reinforcing a hierarchical dynamic that suggested a lack of respect for her team.

Nearly two years ago, author Chris Whipple released a book titled The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden’s White House, which included insights from a former staff member of Harris. This individual expressed concerns about her lack of preparation for critical policy discussions, suggesting that her frustration with outcomes stemmed from an unwillingness to engage in the necessary groundwork.
