Biden Reflects on Pressure from the Obamas in Political Decisions

Newt Gingrich, the former Speaker of the House, expressed his belief that President Joe Biden likely attributes his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race to the influence of the Obamas, suggesting that they played a pivotal role in his decision to exit. Gingrich emphasized that the Obamas were a significant factor in Biden's political maneuvering, implying that their involvement was instrumental in shaping the current political landscape that led to Biden's departure.

These remarks were made during a Sunday morning interview with John Catsimatidis, the host of "The Cats Roundtable" on WABC 770 AM. Biden's decision to step back from the race came on July 21, following a debate with Republican nominee Donald Trump on June 27, which raised concerns within the Democratic Party regarding Biden's cognitive abilities. This sequence of events has sparked discussions about the internal dynamics of the party and the potential influence of prominent figures like the Obamas on Biden's political trajectory.

There is a prevailing theory that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former President Barack Obama played crucial roles in persuading President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, thereby paving the way for Vice President Kamala Harris to take the lead. According to political commentator Newt Gingrich, Biden harbors a strong belief that the Obamas were instrumental in sidelining him during the 2016 election in favor of Hillary Clinton, and he perceives a similar maneuver this year. Gingrich asserts that both Pelosi and the Obamas were significant influences in Biden's decision to step aside, suggesting that he was reluctant to do so and felt pressured by their actions.

Gingrich further emphasized the perceived slight against Biden during the Democratic National Convention, where his keynote address was scheduled so late on the first day that it effectively transitioned into the second day. He described the atmosphere as somewhat melancholic, noting that Biden appeared to share this sentiment. Gingrich pointed out the irony of the situation, where individuals who had previously undermined Biden were publicly expressing gratitude towards him, leading him to question their sincerity. The timing of his speech, which was delayed to such an extent, was viewed by Gingrich as almost disrespectful, leaving Biden in a position to wonder why, if he was so appreciated, he was not the party's nominee.
