Southern Lebanon Civilians Advised to Leave Their Homes
On Sunday morning, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced the initiation of extensive airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions throughout Lebanon. This military action was prompted by intelligence indicating that the militant group was on the verge of executing an attack against Israel. IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the organization had been identified as preparing to launch missiles and rockets aimed at Israeli territory, necessitating a decisive response from the IDF.
In light of the imminent threat posed by Hezbollah, the Israeli Air Force has deployed fighter jets to strike specific targets associated with the group, which the IDF categorizes as a terrorist organization. The operations are focused on neutralizing threats that could potentially harm Israeli citizens. The IDF's statement highlighted the precarious situation for civilians in southern Lebanon, urging them to evacuate their residences and move away from areas deemed dangerous due to Hezbollah's military activities.
As a precautionary measure, public shelters have been opened across Israel, and new restrictions have been implemented in northern regions of the country. The ongoing conflict has already led to the evacuation of nearly 80,000 residents living near the Lebanon border, following a series of rocket and drone attacks initiated by Hezbollah in October. The militant group has vowed to persist with its assaults to deter Israelis from returning to their homes, resulting in casualties that include 26 civilians and 19 soldiers in Israel, alongside the launch of over 6,700 rockets and drones since October 8.
